Plot Summary
Once Upon a Musical follows a young girl, a princess by law, but a horse-rider by heart, and a young boy with the heart of a musical theatre critic. The princess, Gigi, is sent off to Madame Ferne's Fairy Finishing School, where one learns how to be a proper lad or lady. King Prinx, the prince's father, sees him relaxing, and sends him to garden with the goblins, where he learn about "Growing Food in the Garden," a jazzy, tap-dance number. Back at finishing school, Gigi realizes that waltzing and being proper isn't her style, and she runs away, eventually learning to ask "Why?" the rules of the kingdom should be followed. Why must dragons use their fire to create heat for planes and trains? Why must unicorns be carpenters? Why must goblins garden? After a literal and societal earthquake, we learn that "Everyone Has A Job" to keep the kingdom running smooth, but that job, and our overall sense of personal identity is ours to choose.
